what happened to kathy nolan on season 4

What happened to Kathy Nolan

I've recently acquired 203 episodes of this series, and I was distressing to find that Kathy Nolan disappeared in the last season. Can anyone tell me what happened both on or off screen to cause this to happen?

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I remember reading where Kathy Nolan wanted out of the testify because she had the aspirations of starring in a show of her own. Also, "The Existent McCoys" switched over to CBS in its last season. The writers decided to have Kathy Nolan'southward character dice and accept Luke as a widower. The series had a brusque run on CBS because the fans missed Kathy Nolan'due south presence.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

The short run may have also been caused past the fact the when the evidence switched to CBS they ran it oposite NBC's No. 1 show Bonanza. That I am sure helped in its demise. That and the fact that non merely was Kathy Nolan dropped from the cast but so were the ii kids. Losing iii regulars was a huge error in my opinion. And yes, Kathy Nolan's absence was the reason I stopped watching. The bear witness was never the same.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I totally agree that with the loss of Kathy Nolan the show suffered. The aforementioned happened when Don Knotts left The Andy Griffith Show.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Nothing more than dreadful than the post-Knotts color episodes of Andy Griffith.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Its a shame when someone leaves a series prematurely when it subsequently turns out to exist their legacy achievement that everyone remembers them most for.

This was undoubtedly the highlight of Ms. Nolan's career. Since the testify had been on already for 5 seasons, it had already proven that information technology would be regarded as an all time one-act TV evidence. My preference would have been for her to stay the course with the prove and ride out the fame as long as possible with her legacy achievement. And make the best bargain possible contract-wise to stay on, fifty-fifty if information technology might not have been the virtually optimum.

Had she extended her contract, in that location's a proficient hazard The Real McCoys would not take tanked and fifty-fifty ran on a couple of more than seasons. Would take fabricated fifty-fifty a more than lasting impression for all concerned.

RE: What happened to Kathy Nolan

When Don Knotts left Andy Griffith Bear witness he was replaced by Jack Burns as Deputy Warren Ferguson doing the character aforementioned as the taxicab passenger guy in sketches he'd washed with Avery Schreiber. Although a talented comedic histrion Warren was seen equally "Shemp" compared to Barney Fife's "Curley" and disliked by viewers. ๐Ÿ˜

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I heard two unlike stories most the difference of Kathy Nolan. The first was that she was in an motorcar blow that prevented her from acting. The second was that she involved in a contract dispute. Either manner the show definitely was not the aforementioned without her!

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

203 episodes?? Where did you go them I take just 2 dvds.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

A trader lent me his principal tapes, and I put them onto DVD for him and me.

I'g sorry, just I never sell, only trade. At this betoken in time, I don't know of a reputable trader that has the same set set that likewise sells. :-(

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I had tapes from off of aqueduct TNN.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

She'south on the Big Valley correct now (Season 1, "Into the Widow'south Spider web") equally a skillful lookin redhead.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Kathleen Nolan Nolan left "The Real McCoys" when her contract expired in 1962 to attempt other things (Kate died off screen). The show'due south shooting schedule — 39 episodes were done in a season — left piffling room for outside projects, such as film or phase work. She wnet on to become the first adult female president of the Screen Actor's Club.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I'd heard at the time (1964) that she left "The Real McCoys" to star in the curt-lived comedy "Broadside." Both shows tanked.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

It may also been because ABC promised Kathleen her own series, "Broadside" (1964) and in that location may accept been a delay in producing the testify. By the way, when Danny Thomas moved from ABC to NBC, they gave him a new wife and stepdaughter, writing out his original daughter from the show.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I read that Kathy Nolan wanted more coin and a better contract. They didn't want to requite it to her, so they killed her grapheme off. In the case of "Brand Room for Daddy", Jean Hagen wanted out of the evidence--she was tired of being the good housewife. So, they let her go and killed Margaret Williams at the stop of the 55-56 season.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

She did after star in the "McHales's Navy" spin-off, "Broadside".

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I do not believe that Broadside was a spin-off of McHale'southward Navy.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Does anyone know what Luke'southward pet name for Kathy was?

It was "Sugarbabe"
i had to think about that for awhile...
I never knew was a Horrible racist Walter Brennan was.
Gramps Amos McCoy was not a lovible as people were led to believe...

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I loved the guy, and I hate information technology when stuff somes upward similar that virtually someone that can't defend themself.

What proof do you have?

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

From some personal quotes he have made in the by that I was read.
On screen he may have been a beloved actor, and I have to say
That he is a swell and wonderful player, but his politics
Off screen was something very far "correct" of Blitz Limbaugh....
Like another dear graphic symbol actor of the past, William Frawley,
Walter Brennan hated African Americans. I was shocked myself, but yous take to understand that these guys are from a time period when white were not exposed
To African Americans except in the media, if at all, in a positive light.
When the ceremonious rights moment occurred, lots of whites who without really having an understanding nearly the discrimination, lynching and KKK deportment that was going on in the "south" became upset and felt that all "Negroes" should be taken out and shot....."Paraphrasing an really quote of Mr. Brennan's virtually the "1965 Watts Riots" and his feelings toward the Rev. Martin Luther King ...I, as a man of mixed race person, still respect his power as an actor and appreciate his torso of work in the history of motion pictures, but hate to know about his personal feeling off screen which now colors my opinions of him as a person..... I detest it when someone of this caliber, use their celebrity condition to..I reason I hate hearing about whatsoever Performer'due south personal towards "real life" Social bug. Some performers take very intelligent thing thoughts, simply I call back they should stay off talk show if now days they practice not desire anything negative comments they make made public. With the advent of the "World Wide Spider web', "YouTube" and all, any comment a Celebrity makes will exist on the inter-net at the speed of low-cal.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Can you give a resource where nosotros can read nigh Walter Brennan's racism? I am very pitiful to read this and would like to come across proof.

Delight understand that the word "Negro" was the ordinary term for black people in the '60s - it was used past anybody, black people included. In the late '60s, it became more correct to say 'black people', and and then in the belatedly '70s/'80s, the term African-American came into vogue.

While it was very unfortunate, sad, and flat-out incorrect for white people to hate black people, it is just as unfortunate today when we meet 'ricochet racism' evidenced by blacks hating white people. Neither is a adept thing.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Brennan was on the set of "Will Sonnet" when he heard about the killing of ML Rex, and was so overly pleased about this to the signal of dancing on the set. This is something well-known in motion picture circles and frequently confirmed by the coiffure on set. I recall some erstwhile-timers I worked with who had been on the set relating the story. As often is the case in those times, the story was suppressed and everyone was warned to not talk to the news media about it.

He also supported Wallace in 1968, and other so-called conservatives who were well-known to accept racial segregation every bit part of their political forte. Of course, one could say he only supported Wallace out of conservatism, seeing Nixon as progressive, merely that'south a real stretch considering his animosity towards Rex. If it were simply due to political alignment, he apparently didn't react the same way at the deaths of the Kennedys.

It's not too hard to come across people born around the same time equally he equally believers in segregation yet not considering themselves as racist. Seems we notwithstanding accept that sort of issue today with some people who say they aren't racist but accept actions that bear witness they are, regardless of political persuasion. Liberals are guilty of this every bit well.

Yep, except that it was recalled and recounted by many on that ready, and is as well noted here on IMDB and in other places as well, so not only by me, and there was more than just that one incident contributing to the notion of his racial attitudes.

What personal quotes? Y'all read them where? I bet he never said "taken out and shot" And,every bit far as the discussion "negro"goes, everybody called blacks that in the threescore'due south.

Re: Walter brennens views on niggers

Why you Running him down for hateing niggers if more than people had felt the way he did this state wouldn't be so full of killer nigger gangs and dope and there ane/two breeds on welfair they should have elected him President and George Wallace every bit vice before yous run me downward How come up the niggers can call us white trash and hunkeys?and kill and rape our women and kids and nothing is done? But when a white person expresses his feelings which are true facts from the news and the history of niggers actions. in every metropolis they live in the crime rate goes out of site murders robberies rape and dope I'm a ex marine vietnam veteran Walter Brennan was my hero…God rest his soul.

to jpap100, Luke'south pet proper noun for Kate was SugarBabe

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

SUGAR BABE IS THE Respond!

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I just stumbled onto Google'south paper archive search engine and institute an interview of Kathy Nolan from eight/16/62 about her leaving the series.

The highlights of the interview are that when her five yr contract for the "Real McCoys" was up, Ms. Nolan decided to move on. She said she passed up on earning 200k yearly past staying on and that the broken dorsum she suffered from falling off a horse in a 1961 episode made her recollect about her future.

It's a short commodity, only very enlightening.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Thanks for that link. I pretty much knew why she had left the show, but I didn't know why she disappeared for a big portion of season four. That link also explains that. Cheers once again. I approximate the just mystery left is what happened to Lydia Reed.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I was alive at the time of "MCoys" and "Guns of Will Sonnett." I remember reading some anti-Communist statements by Brennan, merely null about killing some blacks. I dubiousness if whatsoever network or studio publicist would take allowed him to go on the record with that kind of talk. Non in the 1960'due south. Please provide some sources for these so-called racist remarks.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

It's ridiculous to attribute "racism" to Walter Brennan. Reading over the allegations by the poster, it seems that he disagreed with Mr. Brennan's politics and believes that anyone on the right is automatically a "racist"...silly.

Mr. Brennan was, from what I tin notice out, very anti-communist, which was not an unusual thing in the 1960s, and a skillful quality to take. Information technology's sad that people can't have their own opinions on things without slinging names like "racist" when someone disagrees with them politically. I'g glad that the other posters on here rightly dedicated Mr. Brennan and called for proof, which patently was non forthcoming. I thought it weird, besides, that IMDB gave Mr. Brennan 2nd billing in their credits.

Equally for the topic of this thread, I hated seeing Kate become, and the bear witness definitely did change after she left...for the worse. I actually thought that the other characters didn't comment on her expiry enough personally. Information technology seemed that Luke went on dating pretty chop-chop after they revealed that she died. I also concord that it was a mistake to have out and so much of the bandage the way they did. It inverse the whole feel of the show, unfortunately.

Good give-and-take thread, and a shame we don't take more shows like this today.

I remember reading several different sources nigh Walter Brennan'southward reaction to Dr. Martin Luther King's death. Sad to think he celebrated that effect. He was and then talented, had a long career, was in some nifty, classic movies. It's tainted now, given his attitude and behavior.

What happened to Kathy Nolan

Thank you "BH-BOCLRACA" for the great news story. Do nosotros know the proper noun of the episode that she fell off of the horse & broke her back?

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Nolan was injured in this episode:

Flavour 4, Episode 12
19 Jan. 1961
"The Equus caballus Expert"
Grampa claims he tin can tame a horse. The horse allows anyone to ride it - except Grampa.

She returns in:

Season 4, Episode 27
11 May 1961
"Kate Comes Abode"
Kate comes home from the hospital, and Hassie takes over the cooking chores.

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

This morning I watched episode 34 flavour half dozen "The Sale". At that place are but 5 episodes left afterwards this i. About the first, Luke turns to Pepino before entering the auction house and says "Perhaps I can get something for Kate's altogether in here." Or something very near that, just definitely said Kate...! Can someone explicate that one...!!?!!

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

I am not familiar with this episode, but perhaps Richard Crenna misspoke and the director didn't catch information technology. Or could they accept reused footage from a previous episode and left the remark in it, hoping that viewers wouldn't notice?

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

While filming an episode on February 23 1961 Ms Nolan fell from a horse and was injured seriously. She couldn't return to piece of work at all until until 4 months subsequently when she fabricated an appearance in an episode on June 15th 1961. She was in and out of the infirmary ofttimes due to this injury. Primarily because of these ongoing wellness issues she didn't return for the final season in '62-'63! When the final flavour started it was told portrayed as though Kate had passed abroad! Hope this helps!

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

How-do-you-do! Hither I am reading your question and commenting 15 years later.
I used to sentry this equally a child. We uploaded the 'tubi' app on the TV and seen alot of the 'ol classics. One of my favorites from back and then of course was 'The McCoy'due south.
I turned on episode vi:one this night. Watching, waiting. Where's Kate? Uh, where'd Kate go?. What do yous mean Luke's a widow?
Here I am. I read an article today saying that at the end of season v that Kate savage off a horse during rehearsal and got hurt. She u.s. unable to render to the prove then they wrote Luke in as a widow. They still haven't said on the testify virtually the tragedy of Kate's expiry.
God bless

Re: What happened to Kathy Nolan

Same for me! Here, all these yrs later, having found this serial on VUDU,I found this after googling "where is Kate?" And I idea I'd add together a little of what I know from watching myself. I'm able to get all seasons and am currently on season 4 and they're saying Kate is visiting hither mother who has the flu. They make a remark about her having the influenza for 4 wks which is an awful long time to recover. And George makes an off the gage comment eluding to Kate may be having an affair which Luke & Granddad finds offensive and difficult to believe. Until Luke gets a telegram or letter of the alphabet, can't remember which, telling them she's been being entertained by the next door neighbors son and he'll be passing through then would Luke give him a few things she needs. One of them existence a blue nighty which gets Luke's suspicions going but not Granddaddy'southward. He recalls to George a previous episode where the photographer comes by to photo the subcontract and takes an interest in Kate just just equally a subject, and flatters her with praise of her beauty and she could be successful as a model or actress. Anyhow, Luke and Grandpa get going in this epi but information technology comes out he's married after Luke hits him knocking him out. And so,Grandpa knows better. This ends in the neighbor beingness a priest. I think the episode where she gets thrown from the horse is ii or three, maybe more than episodes before this. I haven't come to her return withal but I am enjoying watching the series so far. Peculiarly during the circumstances surrounding COVID19. Information technology'southward funny and free of anything that'south a downer in my opinion. And then, watching has made being abode and social distancing a little more endurable. Sad to read the comments hither regarding his racism but,I, similar others here, feel it's unnecessary to slander and tarnish anyone who can't defend themselves. Bonus: was born hither in Massachusetts! Anyway, sad to go on and on. Got alot of time on my hands! (Social distancing!) ๐Ÿ˜ Stay Safe! Stay Home! And prayerfully it volition exist over and done with sooner rather than later! ๐Ÿ’œ
